Biography
Graduated in Experimental Physics in 1961, MSc thesis in Solid State Physics completed in 1965, PhD thesis in Physics defended in 1968, all with Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, Croatia (FS). Elected to positions: Senior Scientist, Ruder Boskovic Institute, Zagreb, Croatia (RBI, 1979); Full Professor, Physics Department, FS (1986); Professor Emeritus, University of Zagreb (2010); Associate Member (1992) and Full Member (2004), Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Specialization: University of Manchester. Visiting professor: Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava; Martin Luther University, Halle. Main teaching courses: Fundamentals of Physics, X-ray Diffraction in Polycrystalline Materials, Solid State Physics. Supervisor: a number of PhD, MSc and diploma theses. Awards: Municipality of Zagreb Award for the scientific achievements (1974); State Annual Award for the scientific achievements in diffraction physics (2001). A member and chair of Organizing and Scientific Committees of tens of international meetings, including European Crystallographic Meetings and European Powder Diffraction Conferences. Delegate of RBI in the European Physical Society. Secretary and President of the Croatian Crystallographic Association (1992-2017). Chair of the Committee working on the Croatian National Educational Standard in Physics.
Research Area
Crystallography, solid state physics and chemistry, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, spectroscopies. Crystal structure and microstructure, phase transitions and phase diagrams of metallic alloys and oxides, semiconductors, (bio)minerals. Education. History of science. More than 200 papers in scientific journals cited in Current Contents, 250 contributions at scientific meetings, 20 invited lectures.
