Biography

Studied chemistry and obtained his PhD in chemistry at the Lviv State University in Ukraine on the intermetallic compounds of gallium. Since 2001 - Member of the Max Planck Society and Director at Max-Planck-Institut for Chemische Physik fester Stoffe in Dresden, several years was Managing Director of the Institute. Since 2002 - faculty member and honorary professor in chemical metal science at the Dresden University of Technology, Germany. Was awarded as Visiting professor at ENSICAEN, Caen and at the University of Rennes in France. Since 2010 - Visiting professor of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Was or is Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief of Zeitschrift for Kristallographie in New Crystal Structures, member of the Editorial Boards of Zeitschrift for Kristallographie in Crystalline Materials, Journal of Alloys and Compounds, Journal of Solid State Chemistry, Science and Technology of Advanced Materials, Materials Physics Today. Was elected as Board member of the section Solid state chemistry and materials sciences of the German Chemical Society (2007-2013), Board Member of the International Thermoelectric Society (2013), Board Member of the European Thermoelectric Society (2014) and Associate Member of the International Thermoelectric Academy (2014). Author and co-author of ca. 600 scientific publications and more than 15 patents with several thousands of citations.

Research Area

Experimental and theoretical investigations on chemistry and physics of intermetallic compounds based on analysis of chemical bonding.
